A recent report notes that sales of meat and poultry grew 1% last year to more than $50 billion. Titled “The Power of Meat,” the report says 81% of people surveyed describe themselves as meat eaters. Another 12% are “flexitarians” who primarily eat vegetables but occasionally eat meat or fish.

Supermarket News says one key takeaway from the report is that meat department sales are accelerating in dollars and volume. Meat consumption around the world is expected to increase 1.4% per year through 2023. Socionomists observe that in America, meat consumption has traced an Elliott wave pattern for more than a century.
