The Department of Defense is calling for scientists to develop bullets made of “biodegradable composites,” such as seeds. Standard bullets don’t biodegrade for hundreds of years, will rust and are unsafe for soil and water.
Biodegradable rounds made with seeds could germinate within several months. The ammunition would be for training exercises, not live combat.
