China remains defiant in its territorial dispute with other Asian countries over the South China Sea. Hong Lei, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, says his country will not accept a forthcoming ruling from a UN tribunal in a case filed against China by the Philippines in 2013. Lei said the tribunal “has no jurisdiction” in the South China Sea dispute and “should not have heard the case.” The tribunal plans to hand down its ruling on July 12. In the meantime, negative mood continues to drive aggression in China, which claims more than 80% of the South China Sea, putting it at odds not only with the Philippines but with Malaysia, Indonesia,
Brunei, Vietnam and Taiwan.
