When “The Hunger Games” came to the big screen in March 2012, it earned the third-highest opening weekend in cinema history. At the time it would have been easy to think that a strong demand would continue for dystopian films. But in fact, dark fare is falling out of favor. The third flick in the Divergent series had a lackluster domestic box office, and was largely panned by critics. Lions Gate Entertainment reports a significantly reduced budget for the next installment of the series.
