President Obama has called for more oversight of federal programs that provide military surplus equipment to local law enforcement agencies. However, a December 1 TIME magazine article says the president stopped short of banning the transfer of heavy military gear to police forces. He also called for $75 million to equip police across the country with body-worn cameras.
