In New Zealand, the Green Party and the International Whaling Commission are saying the Maui dolphin, of which just 55 remain, is being put into unnecessary and critical danger from oil development and exploration. But New Zealand’s conservation minister has assured critics that safety measures are in place and that it would be “lunacy” to jeopardize the petroleum industry in the area.
