The 2014 Ukrainian Revolution that ousted the pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych was not enough to reduce the country’s frustrations. The west-east divide was clearly visible recently when pro-Russian militia’s seized police departments and other administrative buildings in eastern cities. In response, the government in Kiev sent troops, tanks and air support to recapture the buildings and retain order.
