On April 8, Spain’s parliament overwhelmingly rejected a petition from Catalonia to hold an independence referendum. The vote was 299-47. But even if Catalonia holds the vote against Spain’s will, it still believes that it would be accepted into the European Union as an independent nation. The EU Commission says Catalonia will be ejected from the union if it separates from Spain, according to an April 16 article in RT News. Currently, 60% of Catalonians support independence.
