Brazil’s congress passed a bill that spells out sweeping provisions to protect privacy and freedom of expression online. The “Marco Civil da Internet” still needs to clear the senate, but it is already being hailed as a win for privacy activists over telecom companies who prefer information to flow according to who pays the most for it.
