Police in Iceland have killed a civilian. Among Americans, this would come as no surprise, but the newsworthiness of this event is that this man is the first person killed by Icelandic police ever. For what its worth, the man was firing a shotgun indiscriminately inside his apartment, refused to speak or negotiate with police, and even refused cooperation after being tear gassed.
Icelandic police must have shown considerable restraint over the decades if this is their first fatal shooting ever. Across the world, police are being granted more powers to operate with impunity. For more on that, click here.
