An Italian senator has insulted his country’s first black minister, Cecile Kyenge, by comparing her to an orangutan. The senator, Roberto Calderoli, is a member of Italy’s anti-immigration Northern League party. Kyenge, who was born in Africa, has faced “numerous expressions of hostility from the Northern League” and has been the subject of “verbal slurs and death threats,” according to a July 15 Fox News article.
