“Millions of people live in some form of enslavement. The exact numbers are impossible to calculate. Modern slavery is one of the most powerful criminal industries,” wrote The Guardian on April 26. Volume 1 of the Encyclopedia of Human Rights says, “at the beginning of the nineteenth century an estimated three-quarters of all people alive were trapped in bondage against their will either in some form of slavery or serfdom.” Our socionomic radar is picking up more and more reports of modern slavery.
