In its list of Top 10 Trends in Children’s Books for 2013, Scholastic says “the end of dystopian novels is nowhere in sight.” It also notes that while there has never been a shortage of books about the undead and paranormal, it has recently seen the release of a “wide range of post-apocalyptic novels.” Finally, Scholastic tells us to be on the lookout for more tough girls like The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen, who is “building a legion of strong girl protagonists.” That means we’ll be seeing more powerful female characters who confront the challenges before them, refuse to back down and never take the easy way out.
