Yes Virginia, There is a Confederacy Month
GAINESVILLE, Ga. / April 15, 2010 – Will the US be home to more than 50
states a few years from now? Is the European Union on the path to civil
war? Analysts at the Georgia-based Socionomics Institute say an uprising
of secession sentiments worldwide is threatening the ties that bind nations,
and groups of nations, together. In a landmark study
on secession, Alan Hall says current feelings of anger are just the
beginning. This year alone has seen secession movements crop up in New York,
Maine and Texas. “When society’s mood turns deeply negative,” he says, “it
often leads to skirmishes with other nations. In the absence of an external
foe, anger turns inward in the form of secessionism.” Hall’s logic applies
globally – Greece’s ongoing credit crisis, brought to light by the recent
recession, has created negative sentiment in the EU. Look for the mood there
to worsen, spawning political strife that will ultimately
bring the EU down.
