TSA: Transportation Security... Authoritarians?
GAINESVILLE, Ga. / November 22, 2010 – “Authoritarians will continue to use the fear of terrorism to institutionalize a culture of surveillance and control.”
Researchers at the Socionomics Institute issued that statement in the context of the TSA in May 2010. The Georgia-based think tank says the TSA's new, controversial security policies are a predictable step in a trend toward much more restricted travel. Analysts at The Socionomics Institute assess society's mood and predict social behavior. While the anti-TSA backlash is likely to heat up during the busy holiday season, they say, Americans will experience much stricter controls down the road – including the advent of internal travel papers. As they said in May, fasten your seatbelts and raise your tray tables.
