Slavery is NOT an artifact of the past. It remains a fact of the present. “The more we look, the more we find,” says the director of the UK’s National Crime Agency. While the number of reported victims in the UK doubled from 2013 to 2016, estimates suggest the true number is in the tens of thousands. A report from the International Labor Organization estimates more than 40 million worldwide were victims of modern slavery in 2016.
