Game of Thrones is back. Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow’s new movie about the 1967 Detroit riot has been called “a horror film.” The formerly-sunny USA Network is now pushing gritty dramas like Sinner and Unsolved. The small screen and the silver screen alike are starting to look grim. And if mood grows darker, you can expect to see more of it.

Game of Thrones timed it right with its launch in 2011. Will these other shows be so fortunate?
