The recent outbreak of H7N9 bird flu in China is “the largest epidemic wave since 2013,” according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). H7N9 primarily infects poultry populations, yet is one of several strains with “the potential to cause a human pandemic.” Earlier this year, a CDC travel notice warned travelers to China to avoid live poultry markets.
